Training
I am a fully-qualified UKCP and BACP-registered psychotherapist with an MA and Advanced Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling from The Minster Centre, one of Europe’s leading trainings in integrative psychotherapy and counselling. I am also a member of The Relational School, and carry profiles with UKCP, BACP, Psychology Today, Counselling Directory and Therapy Finders.
As an integrative therapist I draw on a range of approaches to help you, gently, get closer to the issue which is proving challenging and allow you manage it differently. This includes working relationally, allowing us to notice how our experience of being together might be a microcosm of your other relationships and therefore an opportunity to experiment with new approaches.
Background
I have a BA and MA from the University of Warwick (in Politics and European Cultural Policy & Administration, respectively) following which I was a theatre director and playwright for eighteen years.
Theatre and therapy are both about seeing people change and about how our stories and feelings can facilitate or block that change. But there’s a big difference. Now there’s no audience, no spotlight, no need to perform.
There’s just us in a couple of chairs trying to work out how best to improve things for you.
Client Experience
I have conducted well over 5,000 sessions of therapy, variously in private practice, at a low-cost therapy service, and a university as well as through six years of training.
I set up a counselling service for Masters acting students at Arts Ed, the leading drama school, which I ran for nearly five years.
While training, I also worked for Middlesex University’s student counselling service for two years, and for a low-cost counselling service.
My experience varies from open-ended work lasting several years, to a more time-limited structure (6-12 sessions) or solution-focussed work, all dependent on the client’s needs.
Amongst a wide variety of issues I have helped clients with, I am particularly familiar with relational difficulties, eating disorders, body issues and sexual/physical abuse histories, and have worked very extensively with people in the performing arts or media. (See button below for a comprehensive list of issues I’m experienced in.)
Personal Experience
I have had eight years of personal therapy, which has been an essential experience for my life as well as a requirement for my training. Exploring myself is what lead me to wish to help explore others. Going to therapy is the best thing I ever did for myself. I seek to give my clients that reparative experience.
Everyone Welcome
I have worked with clients of a range of ages, genders, nationalities and sexualities, and on a wide spectrum of issues. I am particularly experienced with those working in the media/arts and those with challenges related to their body image.
Whoever you are, whatever you bring,
I look forward to helping you.
